Masaki Shimokubo was born and raised in Japan. He started playing drums at the age of 16, at the age of 19 he went to U.S and played with various musicians from all over the world. He enrolled in the Musician's Institute, where his achievements were highly recognized and earned him the Music Institute Best Drummer's Award. After returning to Japan, he's played in numerous live concerts of Funk,Gospel, Soul and R&B music, as well as in recordings, and also held one man live concerts with his own band. In 2009, he was chosen to play for Dorothy Morrison, the lead singer of the Grammy Award winning Edwin Hawkins Singers, when they toured Japan.
Currently he is playing on his own funk band"STANKDAPHUNK" and many funk band. and also he is the main drummer for the American Church in Japan. In his passion to further improve his skills, he regularly plays with several recognized musicians.
