John Turner is a native of Cleveland, Ohio born May 30, 1984. John started playing drums at the early age of 3 years old. By the time he reached 6 years of age he began playing for the children’s choir at the Temple Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. In June of 1994 he later moved on and became the head drummer for the Harvest Baptist Church. Over the years John’s skills began advancing. In 1999 he was chosen to be the drummer for his junior high schools choir. While playing for the choir at an event for the Cleveland Board of Education he grabbed the attention of CEO Barbara Byrd Bennett. Without an audition he was accepted into the Cleveland School of the Arts. Dr. Bennett felt he didn’t belong anywhere else. In May of 2002 while attending the Cleveland School of the Arts he performed with the CSA Jazz Band at the Tri-C Jazz Festival along with numerous artists where he received great reviews for his drum performances. He remained at the Cleveland School of the Arts until he graduated under the direction of Dr. Woods.
John has done some recording with local artists such as John Stevens, Phillip K. Jones II and LaFayetta Carthon, just to name a few. John has also been able to share his talent with not only friends but also his family gospel group, The Turner Singers. John has played for artists such as Lisa Page, Leandrea Johnson, Jason Nelson, Johnny Gill and Johnathan Dunn and also the group Walter Barnes and the Men of Ministry. He has shared stages with groups and artists such as Richard Smallwood, Canton Spirituals, Dorinda Clark Cole, Smokie Norful, Kirk Franklin, James Fortune, John Pee Kee, Kurt Carr, and The Rude Boys.
Currently John has his eyes set on his production company Like Father Like Son as well as his local work.
